Snow Sports Merit Badge and Ski Trip

Post date: Jan 13, 2011 3:02:18 AM

Greetings Troop 737,

On Saturday, January 29th, Troop 737 will go on a day trip to Loveland Ski area and a Pizza Dinner at Beau Jo's in Evergreen. The troop calendar has not yet been updated, but I have some details worked out and wanted to get the word out. The cost of the ski ticket can be found at this link: http://www.skiloveland.com/group/gsp.aspx, see below for a total cost breakdown by age. The cost of the Pizza, soup, salad and drinks at Beau Jo's is $10. Lunch is up to each scout, he can either purchase it or bring it. The calendar will shortly be updated with more details including the departure and arrival times. This is a pretty good deal for a full day of skiing and a pizza dinner.

We are going to spend the first half of the day on the slope getting all scouts the Snow Sports Merit Badge if you don't already have it. If you do, plan on helping the counselors out until lunch time. After lunch, we will buddy up and have free ski time for the remainder of the day. Next meeting, on Monday, January 17th is advancement night and we will be holding a session for all scouts that are going on the trip and don't have the merit badge. Please go to this link, http://usscouts.org/mb/mb135.asp and download, print, fill out and bring with you to the meeting a worksheet that you can get at the bottom of the page. You need to fill out and know all of requirments 1-4 and be prepared to be tested by Mr Catterson. We will do requirement 5; snowboarding or alpine skiing on the slope. Mr Catterson will be the counselor on Monday, and also on skis on the slope. I, Mr Hoffman, will be the snowboarding counselor on the slopes.

The sign up sheet will be at Monday's meeting with a deadline on Monday January 24th. The total cost is age dependent (please note your age on the sign up sheet next to your name) as follows:

  • Age 14 and under: $25
  • Age 15 to 18: $35
  • Adults: $40

One final word; this is a merit badge day, as such, we cannot teach scouts how to ski or ride. You need to know how to ski or ride and be able to complete the requirements to go on this trip.

This has always been a fun day at for troop 737, so I hope to see all of you on the slopes!!!

Mr. Hoffman
