Hello Troop 737,

This Monday night will be Trop Elections. Job descriptions and signup sheets will be available. If you need a leadership position please sign up. If you can’t make it, please email me and we can work something out. We will be electing SPL (Senior Patrol Leader), Patrol Leaders, Assistant Patrol Leaders and Patrol Quartermasters. All other positions will be assigned based on signups and need for leadership positions. We will also be prepping for our upcoming Webelos recruitment night.

This coming Saturday October 24, from 8:30am to noon we will do ILST training (Introduction to Leadership Sills for Troops) for all new and outgoing leaders, so mark your calendars

If you know a Webelos or are associated with a Cub Scout Pack please invite all Webelos to our Webelos recruitment night on October 26. We will be doing fire starting techniques, cooking smacos and a slide show.

Change in plans: The November Fishing trip is being moved back a weekend to November 13 – 15. We will be going to Tarryall Reservoir. We hope to work on both the Fishing and Mountain Biking merit badges. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

The main reason we moved the Fishing trip back a week was so we could fit in our Winter Camp training. This will be on Saturday November 7 from 8:30am to noon. All scout and adults who want to go on troop outings between November and March need to have Winter Camp training. This is the troop policy for years and we will not make exceptions.

The University of Scouting is coming up on October 24 at Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood. This is a great training event which for is mainly for adults. There is a specific course for Den Chiefs that is offered. Here are some pertinent links:

I have a good friend whose business has been sending care packages to soldiers for years. This year they are really upping their game and sending out 100 Soldier boxes this year. They are looking for toiletries, paperback books, sunscreen, baseball caps or just plain cash. See the attached flyer. There will be a box at all the upcoming meetings until the November 2 PLC meeting. Let’s support our troops.

Scoutmaster Minute Review

A scout is trustworthy. Your earn trust through honest dealings other people. By being honest we show respect for others and because of our honesty, people respect us. Jacob Hamblin lived in Utah in the 1880s. Because of his honest dealings with the local Indians they trusted and respected him. One day he told his son to take a horse to Chief Big Feather and trade for blankets. Before he left Jacob told his son to make a good trade. The son convinced the Chief to give him twice as many blankets as the horse was actually worth. When the son came back he was excited to show his Dad all the blankets he had traded for the horse. When he saw his Dad he said, “How’s this for a good trade.” Jacob was not real happy. Jacob made his son to take back half the blankets. When the son returned the blankets to Chief Big Feather he said “My father made me give these blankets back.” The Chief replied, “I knew he would, Jacob Hamblin is an honest man.” Remember a scout is trustworthy, so be like Jacob Hamblin and be a honest man.
