Havasu Falls - Spring Break Trip

Post date: Jan 25, 2010 1:44:44 AM

Tomorrow night is the LAST NIGHT to sign up for the Havasu Falls Spring Break trip.

To remind you, this is a backpacking trip – there are no roads to Supai or the falls. It is about 10 miles in (to the falls), and an 1,100 foot elevation drop, which means 1,100 foot gain on the way out. Temperatures won’t be bad during Spring Break, but hiking out with gear will require you to be in good shape. You can charter a helicopter now for about $85/person each way. They also have mules. This is the link to the official site – the falls lie within the Havasupai Indian Reservation. http://www.havasupaitribe.com/index.html

The drive each way is more than what we are allowed to travel in a day, so we will have to stay somewhere intermediate each way. This trip will likely take the entire break.Numerous folks have mentioned that Havasu Falls is not the same since a major flood in 2008. Mr. Force did some quick research and found this great blog/trip report that has some pictures of what it looks like as of June 2009. It is a very good site. http://www.downthetrail.com/grand-canyon/new-waterfalls-at-havasu-june-2009/
