Hello Troop 737,

This Monday night, scouts will be talking about their summer experiences at Island Park Scout Camp in Idaho and Camp Dietler at Peaceful Valley. All Scouts and parents are encouraged to come and learn about the awesome experiences for older scouts. We will also be doing campout prep for Camporee.

Our first Court of Honor (COH) is September 29th. Mr. Landon, our Advancement chair, needs 2 weeks to process all rank advancements. This means that scouts will have only Monday night to complete their requirements for rank advancements to be included in the upcoming COH. For those scouts who need a Scoutmaster Conference and Board of Review, please email me and Mr. O’Connor mikeoconnor@journeyfoothills.com. We have doubled up both SM conferences and BOR but we may not be able to accommodate everyone before the COH. NOTE: All merit badges earned during summer camp will be included in the COH.

This year’s Camporee is up at Kenosha Pass which is only about an hour from Evergreen so scouts can come and go if needed. I know of at least one scout who is going to come and camp with the Troop on Friday night, then go to an event on Saturday and come back on Saturday. This is fine with us. You just need to make sure we, the adult leaders, know what is going on. I would also like to point out that one of the requirements of First Class is to participate in 10 activities that do not include regular meetings. Scouts need to participate in campouts for rank advancement. They will also have a lot of fun and they will be more engaged.

As Scoutmaster of a very active troop, I am constantly being approached about our troop helping out in the community. The troop policy has been to give our Eagle projects the priority over any other service opportunities. Instead of bombarding you all with these other opportunities I will keep a list and if a scout wants to participate in a service project or he needs service hours for rank advancement, he can email me for the list.
