Greetings,

Sorry for my tardy weekly posting. Since our last meeting was cancelled due to poor weather, a few of things have changed. Please take note.

Thanks to all the great scouts and scouters who helped on Saturday with the semi-annual planning. I thought the breakout sessions went well. You were a great help to the troop and have planned some great activities for the coming months. You rock.

Thanks to Doug and Andy who attended the Scout Sunday at ELC. Doug did a great reading, and Mrs. Henderson brought a cake that we served to the congregation. I had hoped for and expected more to attend L, since it is one of the most important ways we recognize our charter organization for all they do for us.

Thanks to Mr. Hoffman for getting us squared away for Philmont Scout Ranch. Please see his recent emails on the subject.

Spring Break Trip to Mesa Verde and Moab, Mar 26 – 31 2011. Start talking about it with your families. Details on the website calendar. We’ll start signup soon. Still need a HALO.

6 more spaces available for the Boundary Water Trip. Please see the previous information on the topic:

February 7, 2011. 6:30, ELC. Advancement. I need a contingent of adults to inspect the sleds during the meeting and determine what needs to be repaired. We’ll then ask for volunteers to take the sleds home. I’ll also be asking about the email I sent before the holidays on expectations (https://sites.google.com/a/themountaintroop.org/troop-737-home/home/Expectations). Show up prepared to answer a few questions, and the candy is yours.

February 14, 2011. 6:30, ELC. Order of the Arrow Elections (MOVED) and Klondike Campout Prep This is a critical event for our troop. The Order of the Arrow (OA) is Scouting’s National Honor Society. The fourfold purpose of the OA is:

  • To recognize those campers – Scouts and Scouters – who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives, and by such recognition cause other campers to conduct themselves in such manner as to warrant recognition.
  • To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit.
  • To promote Scout camping, which reaches its greatest effectiveness as a part of the unit’s camping program, both year-round and in the summer camp, as directed by the camping committee of the council.
  • To crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others.

Each year we elect by secret ballot our Order of the Arrow representatives. WE NEED AT LEAST 50% ATTENDANCE by requirement for the elections to be held. You will need to dress warmly – the ceremony is outside.

February 18-20, 2011. Timberline District Klondike Derby Winter Campout. Mr. Riley is the HALO. Signup is closed and we are registered. This is a great event held every year by the Timberline District which brings together troops from across the district to camp and complete. This year it is being held at Camp Tahosa in the Indian Peaks Wilderness, the crown jewel facility of the Denver Area Council. We will need to tune up/repair the sleds and start planning our Klondike event.

February 26/27, 2011. Saturday/Sunday. Oceanography Merit Badge. HALO is Mrs. Henderson. Closed. See all the emails on the subject.
