Hello Troop 737,

What a FABULOUS weekend outing. We learned some new skills, completed some requirements, ate awesome food, enjoyed great fellowship, were inspired and had tons of fun! One other thing, we helped set the WORLD RECORD for bubble wrap popping. Below is a picture of the World Record Holders!

Thank you to our SPL (Senior Patrol Leader) for the weekend. Collin O’Connor. You did a great job. Thank you to all the parents who pitched in to help. I would like to especially thank Butch Lewis who arranged a special pizza lunch at his new Abo’s pizza restaurant. It was a fantastic way to finish the weekend.

This Monday night the theme is fire starting contests. We will be doing individual as well as patrol contests. The PLC will be providing all the material but Scouts need to plan to be outside for the majority of this meeting.

Because of the band concert at West Jeff Middle neither Mrs. Barber nor Mr. Landin will be there on Monday night. Any business that needs to be done with them will have to be done at a later date.

The Court of Honor is September 28th. All scouts who have achieved a new rank or merit badges since our last Court of Honor will be recognized. All parents are encouraged to come, especially Mothers.

The theme is Lake Beach party. Please bring some kind of snack to share. I will be asking for MCs for the COH at the beginning of Monday’s meeting and by the end of the meeting the MCs will be chosen.

Upcoming signup deadlines

TBD; Air Force Football game on October 10

October 12; for Sand Dunes Family Camping trip on October 16 -18

Scoutmaster Minute Review

I have always admired Harry Potter. Harry obviously has some special talents but what sets him apart is his courage and conviction to act on what he thinks is right. This is not always easy and sometimes very scary, but he does it anyway. He did not set out to be a leader; in fact I would say he was a reluctant leader, especially when he was young. But when people saw that Harry had the courage to act on his convictions, they admired him and wanted to follow him. Because of the Scout Oath and Law we, as Scouts, know what it means to act with good moral character. But do you have the courage to act like a Scout. Sometimes, like with Harry Potter, it is not easy and sometimes it is even scary. JK Rowling, who wrote Harry Potter, said, “It is our choices the show what we are, far more than our abilities”. We all know how a Scout is supposed to act, but do you chose to be like Harry Potter, and actually act like a Scout!
