Hello Troop 737,

Thank you to Mike O’Connor for covering for me for the last two meetings.

Thank you to Bill Plaehn for HALOing this weekend’s Klondike campout. Hopefully it didn’t get too warm for this winter adventure. Also thank you to Aidan Plaehn for being the SPL (Senior Patrol Leader) for the weekend.

Monday night will be a special meeting, Patrol Olympics. This promises to be a great time with 5 events; patrol yell, first aid, knots, lashing and orienteering. There will be awesome awards and prizes. We will need some adult judges for all the events so if some of the parents could stay for the meeting it would be greatly appreciated. Here are some of the prizes for the night’s events:

Large candy bar for each member of the overall winning patrol, medium candy bar, small candy bar, bruised bananas or organic broccoli. Which one do you and your patrol mates want? PLC members need to be ready for your specific event.

Neil Snyder has reserved a bind to few the Cranes for our Crane viewing trip in March 11 – 13. We did this trip 2 years ago and both scouts and adults loved it. This is a family trip and we will be staying in a hotel so bring the whole family. We need to finalize reservations by this week. See more information below.

It is time to sign up for summer camp. We will be taking the whole troop to one camp this year. July 31 to August 6. See more information below.

CRANE TRIP SIGN UP INFO

We’re going to use the new troop signup system for the crane trip; please see instructions below.

To summarize briefly once again, we will be leaving right after school on Friday 11 March, and will be returning the afternoon of Sunday 13 March; please note that this does not conflict with JEFFCO spring break. This trip is open to all, with a cost of $85 for adults and $75 for scouts; this cost includes admission to three venues, lodging in a very large conference room at a motel (need to bring sleeping bags, and cots or air mattresses if desired) and lunch and dinner on Saturday (continental breakfast will be provided both mornings by the motel). This is definitely open to all, including all family members. After we get signups we’ll arrange carpools for those not travelling as families. I’ll also be sending out much more detailed info on our activities to those who sign up.

IMPORTANT: The instructions below are the same as we’re using for all the activity signups, except for the specific link that takes you to the crane trip site. However, the site itself is a bit different because we’re allowing guests. After you’ve entered a scout or adult name, you will see yes/no options for the scout and adult, and you’ll also see blocks for the number of guests; it’s possible that these block(s) will default to “1”, which is a glitch. Make sure you only list the total number of guests once, and add names in the comment box to help us know who’s coming; otherwise, enter a “0” in the guest box(es). Also, we could only put in one price for guests, and we used the higher $85 amount; if you choose to use the PayPal or credit card option, I’ll find a way to ensure that your troop account is credited for $10 for any non-scout youth guests.

If you’re interested, please sign up at your earliest opportunity.

SUMMER CAMP SIGN UP INFO

It is time to sign up for summer camp. We will be taking the whole troop to one camp this year. July 31 to August 6 Troop 737 is going to Bartlett Scout Reservation, about 20 minutes northwest of Montpelier, ID. This camp is in the northern end of the Wasatch range, set among tall pines and quaking aspen. Bartlett offers over 50 Merit Badges, a First Year Scout program, and many free time activities. Summer camp costs $380 per Scout and $161 per Adult for camp and most Merit Badges. Some Merit Badges have pre-requisites and/or additional fees. Merit Badge sign-up will occur in April. An initial deposit of $200 per Scout and $100 per Adult is due no later than the March 28 Troop meeting. The final camp payment and any additional class fees are due by the May 16 Troop meeting. There will also be travel related expenses, TBD. The deposit can be paid at http://mountaintroop737.mytroop.us/node/1009 via PayPal or a credit card (note that online payment will also include a 2.9% PayPal fee), or at Troop meetings with a check or their scout account.
